Never too early to sign up for the 2007 Bluffton Today Open and Adult/Child Tennis Tournament, May 18-20.

Tournament sites include Palmetto Bluff, Oldfield, Bluffton High School, Shell Hall, Hampton Hall and Bluffton Recreation Center. Saturday features a pro exhibition, racquet demo, raffle, speed gun, and player dinner at Bluffton High School.

Chaplin court dedication on Sunday

Don’t miss the court dedication ceremony at Chaplin Park on Sunday, February 25, at 1 p.m. This is much more than a ribbon-cutting ceremony — this is a full-blown event with a Play-With-A-Pro exhibition featuring Stan Smith and Hilton Head Island pro Matt Wuller. Donations are being accepted for anyone wishing to participate in the event. To bid ($50 or more) please contact Jacque Houck at 681-3225.

Other activities planned for the event include teaching demonstrations by Cameron Everett’s Pee Wee Players, and the Boys’ and Girls’ Club Stars. The Mercyhurst College Womens team will also be on hand to show off their tennis skills. A Fast Serve Competition will feature juniors’, womens’, and mens’ divisions.

For the uninitiated, the Chaplin facility is one of the finest public parks around and close to the hearts of many a Blufftonian (Chaplin’s beginner clinics developed quite a few of the Bluffton crew). Two hard courts are being added for a total of six courts. They feature million-dollar views of the beach, cool ocean breezes, and top-notch equipment and instruction. Stop by Chaplin and you won’t regret it.
